All about the packs

When we speak about CD/DVD discs, it isn’t that recognizable that jewel cases are the most commonly used disc cases in the market. Digipacks are a type of packaging for discs made out of card stock or other cardboard/heavy paper type of material. Digipacks can be flipped open like a common book, or it can have many parts so that one portion of packaging opens to the right and one to the left, with the disc being in the center portion. Usually the portion that contains the disc is made out of plastic like the traditional jewel case CD; where as the plastic part is attached simply to the paper material in the background.

When it comes to Digipacks, there are quite a few pros and cons. Where you might be more comfortable with something it always comes with a certain price. Digipacks look nice and are used easily and are a highly protective case but they are more expensive than traditional liner notes and most jewel cases. However, where jewel cases crack, Digipacks don’t crack but they might rip and eventually the paper will seem to deteriorate, peel apart and separate. They can be more environmentally friendly than jewel cases because they can be made of recycled paper but unfortunately, they aren’t always in fact made in that way. Digipacks have slowly come to surpass the jewel case as the preferred packaging for a high value CD or DVD release.

One of the most popular types of CD packaging ever invented is the CD jewel case. The familiar size of the jewel cases helps and fits through wherever you want it to be, which makes it very easy to carry around with you wherever you go. But where there are pros, there are cons as well for jewel cases that have been notified to be one of the top choices for discs. The greatest pitfall with jewel cases is their durability. It’s very easy to scratch or break the surface on the front and back of the case if you’re not careful. A jewel case that is not properly packaged might actually be broken before it reaches its upcoming destination no matter where that may seem. Another limitation of traditional CD jewel cases is that they only hold a single disc.
